Bensalem PA sr text by Pete Cava A four-man field for the fast heat got out quickly, and at the 200-meter mark Reggie Carter (Bensalem, PA) was out in front. Carter finished first in 48.91, with Bill Lawhorn (Giddings, TX) charging past Samdi Fraser (Orlando, FL) at the finish to take second place. “My coach told me to go out hard, and that’s what I did,” said Carter, “I knew they were right behind me, so I ran hard and kept my form.”

Boys 400 meters – qualifying: Speed was at a premium in the qualifying rounds, with the top eight times advancing to Sunday’s two-section final.
Junior Bill Lawhorn (Giddings, TX), running in the thirteenth and final heat, turned in the day’s quickest qualifying time at 48.90.
Others in the final are Samdi Frazer (Orlando, FL) at 48.99, Reggie Carter (Bensalem, PA) at 49.20, Marcus Wyche (Silver Springs, MD) at 49.72, Brandon Spradley (Mobile, AL) at 49.83, Richard Williams (Columbus, OH) at 49.89, Carlton Phipps (Lynchburg, VA) at 50.14 and Kendall Gregory (North Ridgeville, OH) at 50.17.
Chris Ward (Orlando) was the fastest non-qualifier at 50.20. Ward was expected to be a double threat in the 400 and 200.
