New Bern NC 3:29.63 Pete Cava's report New Bern (NC) High School and Blazin’ Raiders (Greenbelt, MD) were almost even through the first three legs. When Karjuan Williams got the stick for the North Carolinians, it was all over. Williams, who fled his New Orleans home for the Tarheel State after last fall’s devastating hurricane season, ran a 1:55 split that gave New Bern a first-place finish in 3:29.63. Rigdon Whitfield, Kelvin Hardesty and Darryl Reynolds preceded Williams, who is considered one of the top prep half milers in the nation. Blazin’ Raiders wound up second in 3:30.60. The North Carolinians will go again Sunday in the 4x400 while Williams is favored to win the open 800m.
