HOKA ONE ONE Postal Nationals Announces 2017 National Champions
(GOLETA, Calif.), December 14, 2017 — HOKA ONE ONE®, a division of Deckers Brands (NYSE: DECK), announces the girls of Traverse City Central XC Club in Traverse City, Michigan, and the boys of the Brentwood XC Club in Brentwood, Tennessee, as the winners of the 2017 Postal Nationals Championship.
The clubs posted the fastest two-mile team times in the country to be crowned National Champions. The Central girls ran an 11:25 average time for their first title. In the first back-to-back team title since HOKA revived Postal Nationals in 2014, the Brentwood boys ran a 9:33 average. The squads bested over 600 other high school teams in the largest Postal Nationals in the event’s history.
“This year, HOKA ONE ONE Postal Nationals participation grew by nearly 200 teams, and we are excited by the competition’s continued growth,” said Mike McManus, Senior Sports Marketing Manager at HOKA ONE ONE. “HOKA is proud to produce one of the largest national championships in high school sports, and to help grow the sports of cross-country and track and field at a grassroots level across the country.”
Reviving a tradition from the 1970s, the HOKA ONE ONE Postal Nationals empowers high school cross-country teams from every state to compete against each other in a timed two-mile race on the track. To receive a ranking, teams average and then submit the time of their top five finishers. The competition provides a format where every team in the country gets the chance to compete for a national championship.
“I think it is great that HOKA has continued this traditional cross-country season even that began over 60 years ago,” said Brentwood XC Club Head Coach Guy Avery. “Our boys are excited to have defended their title, which is one of the goals we set as a team this year.”
“The day we ran Postal Nationals was a magical day for the team,” said Traverse City Central Head Coach Lisa Taylor. “We love the Postal Nationals and hope to host one of our own someday, under lights at one of our city parks.”
