Sadie Engelhardt, a junior at Ventura High in California, repeated as champion in the girls invitational mile by running the fastest outdoor mile in U.S. prep history to achieve the National Federation High School record with a 4:31.72 performance at the 64th Mt. SAC Relays Presented by Nike at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif. Engelhardt smashed the 2018 outdoor mile all-time mark of 4:33.87 achieved in 2018 at New Balance Nationals Outdoor by former North Rockland High of New York standout Katelyn Tuohy. Engelhardt achieved a 1,600-meter split of 4:29.86, which ranks behind the 4:26.16 effort of Huntington North High of Indiana graduate Addy Wiley in 2022. Mary Cain of Bronxville High in New York also achieved a faster indoor mile than Engelhardt by clocking 4:28.25 in 2013.
