Chris Parno, the Associate Head Coach at Minnesota State in Mankato who helped guide the Mavericks to the inaugural College Cup victories for both men's and women's teams last year, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the NCAA Division 2 program returning to compete at the 114th Drake Relays Presented by Xtream and Powered by Mediacom at the Blue Oval at Jim Duncan Track inside Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa. Parno has been attending "America's Athletic Classic" as both an athlete and coach for the past two decades, including 11 years with Minnesota State, with the Mavericks capturing 18 Drake Relays titles under the guidance of him and head coach Mike Turgeon. Minnesota State set the Division 2 record last year in Des Moines in the women's 1,600-meter sprint medley relay by clocking 3:53.52, a mark that has since been lowered by Academy of Art, which ran 3:53.0 on March 29 at the 96th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas. Minnesota State secured victories in both the men's and women's 4x100 and 1,600 sprint medley relays last year, in addition to placing second in both the men's and women's 4x400, to triumph in both College Cup team competitions. Parno also mentors Denisha Cartwright, with the Bahamian standout setting the Division 2 record in the indoor 60-meter hurdles at 7.93 seconds, in addition to ranking No. 2 in division history with a wind-legal 12.94 performance in the 100-meter hurdles. The Mavericks are also trying to lower their own program record and Division 2 all-time mark of 58.15 in the men's 4x110-meter shuttle hurdles relay, which they ran at the 2014 Drake Relays.
