Sebastian Coe to Run Road Mile at Vitality Westminster Road Mile Against Other OlympiansBy Adam Kopet, DyeStat Editor Sebastian Coe, current IAAF President and two-time Olympic champion over 1,500 meters, is set to lace up his racing shoes at the age of 60 to run the Olympian Mile at the Vitality Westminster Mile on May 28. He set three mile world records during his career. The Olympian Mile is open to any athlete who has represented Great Britain in any Olympic Games. Five-time Olympic runner Jo Pavey, ice dancer Jayne Torvill and rower Greg Searle are scheduled to take part. Coe's involvement is part of the Daily Mile, an organization that encourages kids to run, jog or walk for at least 15 minutes per day. The 2015 Olympians Mile was won by Steve Cram, another former mile world record holder, in 5:40. When asked whether he would be chasing that time, Coe said to Athletics Weekly, "Well that's quick. I don't think I'll be running 5:40." "Crammy is a lot younger than I am and he probably runs more regularly." The Vitality Westminster Mile features 30 races for all ages and abilities. More news |
