IAAF Considering Mixed-Gender Relays for Olympic ProgramPublished by
After World Relays Test, IAAF to Consider Mixed-Gender Relays for Olympic ProgramBy Adam Kopet, DyeStat Editor The Pulse reports that the IAAF is considering adding a mixed-gender relay to the Olympic program to increase interest in track and field. "As a sport we are looking at different formats," Olivier Gers, chief executive of the IAAF, said to AFP. The 2016 Tracktown Summer Series featured a mixed-gender 4x400 relay. This year's IAAF/BTC World Relays ended the program with the same event. The Bahamas won on their home track in what can be viewed as a trial by the IAAF. Should the Olympic program change to include a mixed-gender relay, both the IAAF and the IOC would need to jointly agree to the change. More news |
