Gwen Berry Broke the American Record in the Hammer at Ole Miss Classic

Gwen Berry broke the American record in the hammer on Saturday at the Ole Miss Classic in Oxford, Mississippi.

The big throw came on her opening attempt, flying out to 251-10 (76.77m).

Berry's first two throws bettered Amanda Bingson's record of 248-5 (75.73m).

Despite bettering her previous world leading mark of 244-9 (74.62m), she lost out on world leader status. Hours earlier in Doha, Qatar, in a stand alone hammer throw competition on the day following the Doha Diamond League meet, world record holder Anita Wlodarczyk opened her season with a best mark of 261-7 (79.73m).
