Bullis MD Boys Earn Performance of the Week Honors - 1/22/19Published by
Dual High School Records Earn Readers' and Editors' Choice AwardsTrack and field fans voiced their choices in this week's DyeStat's Performance of the Week poll, while DyeStat's editors made their own selection. Readers’ Choice: Bullis MD BoysWith 41.2 percent of the vote, the Bullis MD boys won our Readers’ Choice vote, beating Taylor Ewert with her second-place tally of 34.76 percent. This year the boys 4x400 relay national high school record turned 10 years old. That changed Friday on the first day of The Virginia Showcase when the boys from Bullis MD broke the record by just more than a half-second with a time of 3:12.53. The quartet of Andre Turay, (49.46), Ryan Willie (48.53), Jay Pendarvis Jr. (47.99) and Ashton Allen (46.57) won the race by eight seconds as they raced the clock just as much as their competitors. Only two other high school teams in history would have been within a second of Bullis, the Bern NC team from 2009 and the Muir CA team from 1996. Editors’ Choice: Bullis MD BoysThe second day of The Virginia Showcase proved to be just as record breaking for the boys from Bullis MD. Only one day removed from their national high school record in the 4x400 relay, the school was back in action for the boys 4x200 relay. The quartet of Ashton Allen, Austin Allen, Andre Turay and Ryan Willie took down another record, this time by nearly a half-second, as they ran 1:25.60 to break the 14-year-old record of 1:26.09. Again, only two teams have ever run within a second of Bullis' time. The former national record holders Long Beach Poly CA had held the record since 2005. Williams VA, including future professional runners Noah and Josephus Lyles, ran fast times in 2016, but just missed the national record. With it only being January, the question remains, what more will we see from the Bullis boys this season? More news |
