Laura Muir to Miss Birmingham Diamond League Meeting After Injury Sustained in London

By Adam Kopet

Laura Muir of Great Britain announced Thursday on Twitter that she will miss the Birmingham Diamond League meeting, set for Aug. 18, after taking time off from training following an injury she sustained in her last race.

That last race was a win in the 1,500 meters July 20 at the London Diamond League meeting, where she ran 3:58.25. She won the race by more than a second.

Muir has been one of the top middle-distance runners in the world in recent years. She ran 3:56.73 for second place in Rome this year. Her personal best is 3:55.22 from 2016. Muir won the 2018 European Athletics Championships 1,500 and she earned silver and bronze medals at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships in the 1,500 and 3,000 meters, respectively.

Muir's injury still gives her time to return to form in time for the IAAF World Outdoor Championships in Doha, Qatar. The first round of the women's 1,500 is scheduled for Oct. 2.
