In need of a spark heading into next weekend’s Nike Indoor Nationals in New York, Braelyn Baker lit up the track Sunday on the final day of competition at the STCU West Coast Championships.

Baker, who will compete with Duke University next school year, ran a US#14 all-time mark in the girls 300 meters to win in 37.63, then won the 200 later on in a season-best performance of 23.86 at The Podium in Spokane, Wash.

Baker chased down Lake Oswego OR’s Josie Donelson, representing Ultimate Speed Athletics, over the final 100 meters in the 300 race to pick up her first win of the day. Donelson finished with a personal-best 37.86.

Hours later, Baker responded back in the 200 as the overall winner out of section one. Aster Jones of Black Star Athletic Academy was second overall from section three.

Dominick Corley of Spokane Speed Academy delivered another U.S. top-three performance in the boys 200 a day after winning the 60. The Mead WA senior ran a lifetime-best 21.09 for US#3, defeating Seattle Academy WA’s Reggie Witherspoon III, representing GLS Speed, in US#13 21.47.

Bozeman MT’s Nathan Neil showed his strong kick for the second day in a row to win the boys mile in 4:11.06, closing the final 400 in 59.73 seconds to beat Ocean Athletics’ Yemane Mulugeta of Canada in 4:14.17.

Mead WA’s Charlotte Cullen followed her victory Saturday in the girls 800 with a win in the mile in 5:03.45.

GLS Speed’s Sutton Flint collected his second win of the meet, winning the boys 300 in a high school facility record time of 34.77. Flint, sophomore at Liberty High in Issaquah, Wash., won the 60 hurdles Saturday in 8.05.

Flint returned for the 4x400 relay later to help GLS Speed post a winning time of 3:16.51. Eric De Oliveria, Evin Ford and Isaac Ford contributed as well.

Elaine Hudacsko, Jada Sarrys, Quinn Manley and Sena Pittman collectively ran 3:56.43 to win the girls 4x400 relay to complete a GLS Speed sweep.

McDaniel OR’s Maleigha Canaday-Elliott, representing Impulse Athletics NW, turned her second-round jump of 38 feet, 1.50 inches (11.62m) into a winning mark in the girls triple jump.

Lake Washington WA’s Yevhen Zhmailo, representing Bolt Track and Field, hit 45-9.75 (13.96m) on his sixth-round effort to win the boys triple jump by six inches.

Kelowna Secondary’s Elise Drake of Canada dominated the girls weight throw competition, winning by over five feet with a mark of 48-8 (14.83m) on her final attempt.
