Derek Smith, a senior at Buchanan High in California, produced a lifetime-best 195-3 (59.52m) effort to secure second place in the boys discus throw competition at the CIF Central Section Masters meet at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis, Calif. Smith also took third in the shot put at 57-9.25 (17.61m) for the host Bears, who captured the boys team title with 95.5 points.
