LOUISIANA STATE MEET

Scotlandville Sweeps 5A State Titles; Broderick Davis Leads Hornets With Long Jump/110 Hurdles Double; Sade Gray and Makeriah Harris Drive Girls Team To Another Win; Brady Mullen Runs Record 8:48.36 In 3200

It was a Saturday Scotlandville sweep at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association state meet, held May 2-4 at Bernie Moore Track Stadium. Both teams dominated en route to 5A state titles - a first in program history.

The Scotlandville boys dethroned defending champion Catholic of Baton Rouge, using five first-place finishes to tally 76 points and win their first state crown. 

The Hornets were led by Broderick Davis, who won the long jump in a current US#9 mark of 24-8.75. The University of Tennessee commit also won the 110 hurdles (13.78), was part of the winning 4x200 relay, and finished fourth in the 200. 

In the distance events, Jesuit senior Michael Vocke won the 1,600 (4:13.33), while teammate Brady Mullen broke a composite and class record in the  3,200, clocking 8:48.36. 

Airline senior Jeremiah Boudreaux won the 300 hurdles in a US#5 time of 36.76, also a composite record. 

The Scotlandville girls were led by Sade Gray, who won the 100 (11.54) and claimed the 200 in a meet record time of 23.58. Scotlandville, which tallied 83 points, to claim their fifth state title, also received an outstanding performance from Makeriah Harris, who won the 100 hurdles (13.78) and 300 hurdles (42.97). Harris and Gray were part of the winning 4x400 (3:45.53), another meet record. Harris, a senior, finished her LHSAA prep career with a total of 21 indoor and outdoor state titles. 

On the track, junior Kennedi Burks of Barbe won the 400 in a meet record and US#9 time of 53.44. 

In 4A, the Tioga boys won the program’s first state title with 60 points. On the track, Warren Easton’s Germain Smith-Mata swept the sprints, winning the 100 (10.13), 200 (21.24) and 400 (47.70). His 100 time, was an overall record and a current US#2. 

In 4A girls, the nation’s top long jumper, West Feliciana’s Tristen Harris, did not skip a beat. The junior broke a meet record with a mark of 20-10.75, smashing the previous record of 20-5 from 1991 set by Huntington’s Teresa Foster. Harris also added wins in the 100 (11.56) and 200 (24.13).

Warren Easton claimed the team title with 72 points, the first title since 1998. 

3A & 2A - Friday

The 3A team titles were captured by Glen Oaks (boys) and Parkview Baptist (girls), program firsts for both. 

In boys 3A action, Parkview Bapist’s Aiden Monistere won the 1,600 in 4:18.53, 3,200 (9:23.51) and ran on the winning 4x800 (8:12.46). 

Parkview Baptist freshman Lucy Cramer led the way for her team winning the 800 (2:16.34), 1,600 (5:00.31), 3,200 (10:50.50), and ran on the winning 4x800 (9:39.86). Her 1,600 and 3,200 times broke class records. 

In Class 2A, the Acadiana Renaissance boys won the program’s first outdoor title. 

Franklin Roemer of Loyola Prep won the 1,600 (4:24.52) and 3,200 (9:35.38). 

The Menard girls claimed the 2A title with 91 points. Ava Hartman of Newman won the 1600 and 3,200. Her 1,600 time of 5:09.83 was a class record. 

Class 1A, B & C

The Ouachita Christian boys claimed a fourth straight Class 1A state title on Thursday, scoring 77 points 

Tate Hamby led the way winning the 110 and 300 hurdles and claiming the high jump crown. 

In 1A girls, Louise S. McGehee defended their title with 73 points as Kali Magana won the 100, 200 and 400, and was part of the winning 4x400 for the team. Magana’s time of 54.58 in the 400 was a new class record. The previous record of 55.73 was held since 1997.

In girls Class B action, Midland won the program’s first title since 1988. The team had four first-place finishes, claiming all three relay titles. Individually on the track, Doyline’s Izayla Harris won the 100, 200 and 400 titles, setting a class record in the 100 with a time of 11.83.

Episcopal of Acadiana defended the Class B boys title, as Anderson Frank paced them with wins in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200.

The Simpson girls won the program’s first state title, scoring 78 points to win the Class C crown. 

Individually, Gibsland-Coleman’s Samora Sampson won the triple jump, long jump and 100 hurdles. 

The Gibsland-Coleman boys dominated Class C with 119 points to win the team championship. Sprinter Demarquis Durham led the way for the team, as he won the 100 dash in a class record time of 10.85. He also won the 200 (22.69) and was part of the first-place 4x100 and 4x200 relays. 

A total 23 records were set during the state meet.

Class B - Episcopal of Acadiana boys 72 points, Midland girls 64 points - RESULTS 

Class C - Gibsland-Coleman boys 119 points, Simpson girls 78 points RESULTS
