Texas State Meet Recap 2024 - Duncanville Runs 4x200 National Record

Duncanville Boys Smash National Record In 4x200 Relay; Jelani Watkins, Indya Mayberry Run Sensational 100-200 Doubles

Duncanville made sure that it was not left to a footnote of history behind Humble Atascocita's historic 4x100 relay record earlier this year. 

Duncanville found its spot in the record books on Saturday in the 4x200 relay, running a sensational time of 1:22.25 that shed a full second off the national high school record. 

In the overall clash between 6A sprint powers, Humble Atascocita won the team title with 70 points to Duncanville's 61. Katy Tomkins was third with 60. 

Jelani Watkins, who won the 100 meters for Humble Atascocita in 10.19, the 200 meters in 22.60, and also anchored the team to the 4x100 title over Duncanville, 39.14 to 39.47 and the 4x400 over Duncanville 3:10.26 to 3:11.51.

Duncanville's Caden Durham ran 10.46 for third place in the 6A 100 and ran second leg on the sensational 4x200 victory. Katy Tomkins was second in the 4x200 in 1:22.72 for the No. 2 time in high school history. 

Junior Tanook Hines of Spring DeHaney finished behind Watkins in US#7 20.71 in the 200. 

In an epic 300-meter hurdles final, Jayden Keys of Katy Tompkins ran US#2 36.28 to defeat James Ledbetter of Katy Jordan, who ran US#3 36.69. 

Evan Martinez from Arlington Lamar threw 62-8 to win the shot put and 185-6 to win the discus. 

Duncanville won the 6A girls title with 68 points. That included a winning time of 44.70 in the 4x100 relay, matching No. 6 all-time. 

Indya Mayberry from North Crowley paired US#3 11.21 with US#5 22.82 for an incredible 100/200 sprint double in the 6A finals. 

Skylynn Townsend from Rock Hill jumped a wind-legal best of 43-5.75 to move up to No. 9 on the all-time list in the event. She also won the long jump with 20-1.50. 

Nicole Humphries of Lewisville Flower Mound ran US#6 2:06.24 to win the 800 meters. 

San Juanita Leal of Edinburg North put forth an heroic effort in the 800 (third in 2:08.88), the 1,600 (first in 4:42.30) and 3,200 (first in 10:02.10). 

Fort Bend Marshall won the 4x100 (US#5 39.88) and 4x200 for 40 of its 58 points to win the Class 5A boys championship. William Mitchell II also won the 100 meters in 10.43 seconds. 

Sophomore Kendrick Jones Jr of Lake Belton won the 5A 200 meters in 20.83 seconds. 

Freshman Cooper Lutkenhaus of Justin Northwest made history in the 800 meters, where he ran an all-time ninth grade record of 1:49.84, also good for US#3. 

Lancaster scored all 70 of its points in just four events -- sweeping the three relays (60 points) to go with Saniyah Miller's victory in the 200  (23.52). 

Sophomore Elizabeth Leachman of Boerne Champion won state titles in the 1,600 meters (4:41.36) and the 3,200 (10:11.40). 

Isabel Conde de Frankenberg of Cedar Park ran 2:07.10 to win the 800 meters in her final state meet. 

Kailyn Head of Denton Ryan won the 300 hurdles in US#4 41.20 seconds. Angel Brefo of Midlothian Heritage ran US#7 53.41 to win the 400. 

Lily Muzzy from Georgetown won the 5A girls triple jump with US#6 41-6.25.

Madeleine Fey of Killeen Chapparal won the discus with 164-6.

Gilmer and Iowa Colony tied atop the 4A team standings with 66 points apiece. 

Gilmer's Will Henderson won the 100 meters in 10.40 seconds and he helped his team win the 4x100 and 4x200 relays as well. 

Iowa Colony sophomore Jayden Warren ran 10.59 for third in the 100 meters and 21,07 for third in the 200. He was also part of top-three finishes in both the 4x100 and 4x200 and the team also finished second in the 4x400. 

Tyler Brown of Aubrey ran 20.72 to win the 4A 100 meters for US#8 and anchored his team's US#10 3:13.10 4x400 relay. Colter Maya of Lindale ran a US#9 time of 46.58 to win the 400 meters. 

Sophomore Ashtyn Lewis powered Iowa Colony to the 4A girls championship. She won the 400 meters in 54.31 seconds and finished second in the 200 with 24.32. She also anchored the winning 4x400 relay (3:50.54). 

Falyn Lott of Frisco Panther Creek won the 4A 300 hurdles in 41.76 seconds and was second in the 100 hurdles in 14.03 seconds. She won the long jump with 19-0.25 and was second in the high jump at 5-6.

Taylor Nunez was one of the exceptional athletes in the entire meet and she led Universal City Randolph to a title defense in Class 3A with her victories in the 100 meters (11.46), 200 (23.48) and long jump (18-6.25). She also anchored the winning 4x400 relay. Teammate Sophia Bendet also had a big day, winning the 800 in 2:09.99 and the 1,600 in 4:53.73. She, too was on the 4x400 relay team, which ran 3:50.19. 

Yierra Flemings from Cameron Yoe ran 54.48 to win the 3A girls 400 final. 

Yoakum and Hallettsville finished in a tie for the 3A boys crown with 36 points. Hallettsville beat Yoakum by a tenth of a second in the 4x200 to grab its share of the tie. 

Sophomore Camden Capehart from Winnsboro ran 10.44 to win the 3A 100 final. 

Noah Strohman from Holliday won the 800 meters in 1:53.54 and also won the 1,600 in 4:16.68 and the 3,200 in 9:22.42. Holliday was a point from earning a share of the team title, with 35 points. 

Refugio swept the Class 2A team championships. Ernest Campbell ran 10.49 to win the 100 meters and anchored winning 4x100 and 4x200 relays to lead the cause for the boys, who repeated as champions (the girls team tied for the title in 2023). 

Kaylee Hunt from Hico was one of the standouts from the 2A meet, with victory in the pole vault to go with second in the 100 meters, third in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. 

Lainey Jernigan from Goldthwaite ran an exceptional hurdles double, winning with 14.34 (100 hurdles) and 42.82 (300 hurdles). 

Sophomore twins Riley Reed and Stryker Reed helped Gordon claim the 1A boys title. Riley Reed won the 100 in 10.91 seconds and was part of the winning 4x200 and 4x400 relays. Stryker Reed swept the hurdles events (14.60/38.60), was on the winning 4x400 and also was second in the high jump and fourth in the pole vault. 

Hailee Garmer, Taylor Jeffrey, Chasity Benson and Lilly Benson helped Roby repeat its 1A girls title, managing to place  top-three in every track final from the 100 meters to the 3,200. 

Xiomara Rodriguez from Lasara threw 154-7 in the 1A discus final and also won the shot put.
